FLORAL DESIGN AND CULTURE II

Course Description:
Students will deepen their knowledge of floral design and will also expand their knowledge base about growing from bulbs and seeds, as well as learning to propagate plants from rooted cuttings. The 102 section will have particular responsibility and creative oversight of the flowers and decorations for prom. This class will also engage in planting exotics (such as orchids) to be sold for the annual plant sale. The plant sale benefits the PHC scholarship fund.
CULTIVATION:
Grow from seed (flower and vegetable)
Bulbs, corms, and rhizomes
Grow from cuttings
FLORAL DESIGN:
Asymmetrical arrangement.
Dozen-stem vase arrangement.
Dress a plant with a bow.
Make a corsage, wired and taped.
Four additional designs completed by the student.
Documentation of two instances of volunteering and sharing of floral skills.
LIFE APPLICATION:
Cultural significance of flowers and their symbolism
Apply garden principles to life situations
Discuss biblical lessons within the practice of gardening
Learn more about the character of God through gardening and floral design
**Students wishing to pursue a Level 2 Floral Design Certification from Texas State Florists Association will be prepared to take this exam. Mrs. D’Errico will provide instruction for this process. There will be an exam fee.
