About PHC

WHO WE ARE

Pearland Home School Connection exists to equip 7th–12th grade students to achieve academic excellence in a safe, enriching environment where each class is founded upon a Biblical worldview. Our heart is to connect home school families to challenging, classical, college preparatory classes for their student in a Christian environment where they can thrive academically and develop in Christian character as well. We seek to equip students with the tools of learning and a worldview framework to encourage the pursuit of life-long learning, while recognizing that God is revealed in and through the various academic disciplines.

It is our desire at PHC to not only come alongside students in their academic endeavors and help them accomplish their academic goals, but to also make their spiritual growth a priority. Our classes, discussions, events, and service opportunities available throughout the school year encourage the students to connect with one another and, more importantly, connect their hearts to Christ.

We firmly believe that it is your right as a parent to choose how to educate your child, as you are the one who knows and understands what is best for them. If your path has led you to homeschool, it is our hope that PHC will be a rich blessing to suit the needs of your journey. Classes are offered a-la-carte so you can easily choose the right fit for your student’s educational needs. Teachers are here to come along side you and support you in the classroom as you work diligently at home towards all your education goals.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

At Pearland Home School Connection, we believe that:

-God created all things for His glory and for His divine purpose (Revelation 4:11, Colossians 1:16, John 1:1-3)

-The Bible, while written by man, was God breathed, and is absolute truth without error. It is God’s written word to each one of us on a personal level (2 Timothy 3:16)

-The God of the Bible is the only true God and He reveals Himself to us as God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19)

-Jesus is the Son of God, He was born on this earth being fully God and fully man and lived a sinless life. He was horrifically crucified on a cross, in our place, as payment for our sins. He conquered sin and death by rising from the dead three days later, and He now sits at the right hand of God (Philippians 2:7-11, Romans 5:8)

-We have all sinned. Salvation is offered as a free gift, yet this gift must be responded to individually in faith and cannot be earned in any way. Our redemption and salvation are guaranteed by the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ and His physical resurrection from the dead (John 3:16, Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23)

-We anchor the Bible as our authority in every decision and policy, including our belief that we are to love all people (John 13:35), that marriage is ordained by God as a union between a man and a woman (Genesis 2:24) , and that life begins at conception (Jeremiah 1:5, Psalm 139:13).

-We anchor the Bible as our authority and uphold God’s perfect design for gender and sexuality by affirming that we are made in His image and He has given us a biological gender (Genesis 1:27, Psalm 139:13)

-Children are a gift given by God as a stewardship to the parents and not the state. We hold steadfast to the belief that parents have the wherewithal and authority to educate their own children (Proverbs 22:6, Deuteronomy 6:6-7)

PHC is committed to operate under this foundation, to live purposefully for the Kingdom of Christ both now and in the future, and to enrich our classrooms with these truths.

UNIQUE BENEFITS OF PHC

PHC is the only homeschool program in our area to have a TWO-DAY MATH OPTION for every math class. If you have a child who would greatly benefit from being in a math classroom for instruction for a second day, then you have come to the right place! The second day will be an option that parents can choose for their child to tailor to their needs. The first day of class, the teacher will introduce and teach the lessons for the entire week. The second day of class will meet for one hour and the teacher will cover day-one concepts in greater depth, discuss problems from the lessons that are tricky, teach problems the students missed in their homework assignments, etc. We pray that this option will be a great asset to families who have a child who struggles with math.

Students will earn a FREE 1/4 CREDIT IN SPEECH EACH YEAR when they enroll in any one of our English classes. PHC recognizes the need among young people to be able to stand in front of a group of people and speak with confidence, ease, intellect and authority. You will see presentations sprinkled into other core classes, such as history. Students will be given the tools to speak with confidence and to combat excessive nerves and anxiety with practical exercises that can ease the stress associated with public speaking. This credit can be placed on their high school transcript.

PHC is the only homeschool program in our area who has a DYSLEXIA AND LEARNING DIFFERENCES PROGRAM! Helen Norris is an instructor in Equipping Minds, which is a brilliant, nationally recognized program for students who struggle with dyslexia, dysgraphia and more. Taking a deep dive into how to help her own son, Helen’s path led her to Equipping Minds. She loved the program so much that she decided to become an EM teacher so that she could help struggling learners with this program. Helen is a compassionate, patient teacher and she has helped many families who have had a child who was struggling with dyslexia or learning difficulties. Four class times will be available for students on Wednesdays. The maximum number of students in each class is 4 to ensure plenty of one-on-one time with the instructor to meet the needs of your child. If you have any questions about this wonderful program, please reach out to Helen Norris at helennorrisphc@gmail.com

PHC is excited to be using CANVAS for the student grading system. Canvas is the #1 used program used in colleges and universities today (100% of Ivy League Universities uses Canvas). Canvas is a user-friendly program that allows you and your student to keep track of grades, turn in assignments, contact the teacher, see teacher updates about assignments, and more. Using Canvas is just one of the ways that PHC is preparing their students for college. Familiarity with this program will put your child at ease when they enter college and Canvas is being used at their university. Students have been using this college-preparatory tool for the 2023/24 school year with ease and they are now empowered with tools to navigate the online system at any college or university, including dual-credit classes. Teachers are available for any questions you have about Canvas and can offer helpful instruction.

PHC is offering a HOMESCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM for homeschool families in need. The Philippians Project will help pay the tuition of any core class at PHC. The project will be funded by the generous donations of people who give and by fundraising events. Philippians 4:19 says that “My God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Sometimes unforeseen financial hardships can hinder a family’s ability to pay for the home education they need for their child. If the Lord has called you to homeschool, He will provide a way for you to accomplish this! The Philippians Project is blessed to come alongside homeschool families who are struggling to help provide, in a small way, a tangible means to accomplish this goal. If you would like to donate to this amazing Project, you can Venmo @PHCConnect and 100% of your donation will go to The Philippians Project that will directly help homeschool families in need in our area.
