Course Description:

English 8 will focus on furthering student reading and writing abilities through both formal and creative means. During the fall semester, students will revisit the five paragraph essay by diving into the second book of C. S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia and learn to think critically by comparing and contrasting Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland and Norton Juster’s Phantom Tollbooth. During the spring semester, students will be exposed to more creative literary forms as we venture into poetry analysis and explication, as well as short stories. In addition to English, students will also learn the history behind each literary time period as we dive into the movements of Christianity during each era and explore how music and art mirrored the trends of the centuries. Students will also have multiple opportunities to practice their communication skills as both active in-class discussions and presentations will be part of the curriculum.
