7th Grade Level
Course Description:
English 7 will focus on elevating student reading and writing abilities through both formal and creative means. During the fall semester, students will learn how to annotate while reading, write book reports, biographic essays, and book blurbs by diving into the works of Frances Hodgson Burnett, C. S. Lewis, and Philip Van Doren Stern.
During the spring semester, students will be exposed to more formal literary forms as we venture into cause and effect essays and an argumentative five paragraph essay with works by Elizabeth Yates, Scott O’Dell, and Wilson Rawls.
In addition to English, students will also learn the history behind each literary time period as we dive into the movements of Christianity during each era and explore how music and art mirrored the trends of the centuries. Students will also have multiple opportunities to practice their communication skills as both in-class discussions and presentations will be part of the curriculum.
[Please note that grammar and spelling will not be included in the English 7 curriculum since these subjects are traditionally focused on during the elementary years.]
