Course Description:

Language Arts 6th grade is a two-day class that will meet on Monday and Wednesday

This 2-day a week class has everything your student will need to build a firm foundation in Language Arts. The class will include writing, grammar, literature, reading comprehension, spelling and cursive.

In Fix It! Grammar: Robin Hood, students learn about the dynamic team of Robin Hood and Little John as they edit daily passages containing the tale. As students hunt for and correct errors, they learn additional comma rules, various phrasal/clausal constructions, quotation punctuation, indefinite/demonstrative/reflexive pronouns, and more.

In IEW’s Structure and Style: Wonders of Science Writing Lessons, students learn to take notes, retell narrative stories, summarize references, write from pictures, compose essays, and more. The class will include literature suggestions and access to a download of vocabulary cards to aid in their writing skills.

In reading comprehension, we will practice the art of memory, note taking and highlighting to increase comprehension as we read a source. Cursive and spelling will be included. We will use a few mediums and tips and tricks to learn to spell better and write cursive in a fun way.

Bring your highlighters! It’s going to be a bright year!!
