Course Description:

Forensic Science is an applied science course that gives students the opportunity to explore scientific concepts through real-world criminal investigations. This class focuses on developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills as students learn how science is used to examine evidence and solve crimes.
Students will study a variety of forensic topics, including types of evidence, crime scene investigation, fingerprint analysis, hair and fiber analysis, trace evidence, soil and glass analysis, forensic entomology, and blood and DNA analysis. Through hands-on labs, case studies, and scenario-based learning, students will apply scientific methods to analyze evidence and draw conclusions.
The course includes weekly homework such as textbook reading, projects, labs, and written assignments designed to strengthen understanding and application of forensic science concepts. Students will maintain a lab notebook to document observations and discoveries and will participate in collaborative activities that simulate real forensic investigations.

Due to the nature of forensic content, some material may be more intense and is intended for mature audiences.

Upon completion, this class will equal one elective credit in Applied Science or Social Science on HS Transcript.
