Fixer Upper meets Wednesdays from 1:45-3:15pm 

Location: 1611 County Road 192 Liverpool, TX 77577

A carpool to the location will meet at PHC every Wednesday. Parents will be responsible for pick-up or to plan a carpool back to the Pearland area.

Course Description:

Fixer-Upper is a practical, hands-on course designed for students to learn essential skills in building, fixing, and maintaining a home. The class aims to equip students with the knowledge and confidence to tackle a wide range of household projects, from basic repairs to improvements that enhance both functionality and aesthetics. Throughout the semester, students will engage in practical exercises, projects, and troubleshooting tasks, learning how to identify problems and apply effective solutions. This course emphasizes safety, tool use, and best practices in home maintenance.

Semester Breakdowns

Semester 1 Summary:

The first semester focuses on the foundational skills needed for home maintenance and improvement. Students will become familiar with essential tools, learn basic carpentry, plumbing, and vehicle maintenance skills, and practice troubleshooting and fixing broken items they bring from home. The semester culminates in a final build project where students will apply their learned skills to construct a nightstand.

Semester 2 Summary:

The second semester builds on the foundational skills from the first semester, introducing more advanced woodworking techniques, painting, drywall repair, flooring, and tiling and car repair and maintenance. Students will continue to troubleshoot and repair various items, with an emphasis on applying their knowledge to more complex projects and developing a maintenance schedule. The final project will involve completing a home improvement project of their choice, showcasing the skills acquired throughout the course.

 

Materials Required:

Hammer, screwdrivers, safety glasses, work gloves and hearing protection.

No required textbooks.
