Course Description:
The scope of this course is to introduce students to cultivation of plants from various sources, a survey of floral design techniques, as well as a deeper discovery of spiritual principles represented in gardening and the world of flowers.
CULTIVATION:
Grow from seed (flower and vegetable)
Bulbs, corms, and rhizomes (iris, ranunculus, anemone)
Grow from cuttings (roses, vines, ornamental shrubs)
FLORAL DESIGN:
Fundamental design principles
Color theory
Design styles
Wedding/Holiday/Special Occasion arranging
Floral design history
Floral materials
Business principles in floral
LIFE APPLICATION:
Cultural significance of flowers and their symbolism
Apply garden principles to life situations
Discuss biblical lessons within the practice of gardening
Learn more about the character of God through gardening and floral design
**Students wishing to pursue a Level 1 Floral Design Certification from Texas State Florists Association will be prepared to take this exam. Mrs. D’Errico will provide instruction for this process.
